The first thing you notice on the Hon Thom cable car is how quiet it gets. Almost 8 km of open water passes beneath the cabin, fishing boats shrink to specks, and the An Thoi archipelago opens up on both sides. Then the doors slide back and you are standing on a different island, one with a water park, a wooden roller coaster, and beaches no road reaches.
Hon Thom works best as a full day out, and the day rewards a plan. This guide covers how to reach the island from the Bai Truong (Long Beach) area, what is actually there, how the tickets and timetable work, and whether the trip fits the holiday you came for.
Hon Thom, also known as Pineapple Island, is the largest island in the An Thoi archipelago, sitting off the southern tip of Phu Quoc about 6 km from An Thoi port. Around it lie the smaller islets that island-hopping boats visit, among them Hon Mong Tay, Hon Gam Ghi, and Hon May Rut.
“Hon Thom” now refers to two things: the island itself, and Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, the entertainment complex built across part of it. Most day trips are really trips to the park, though the beaches and reefs beyond it are open to anyone who makes the crossing.

Since 1 July 2025, Phu Quoc has been a special zone under An Giang province, after the merger with Kiên Giang. For the wider picture, see our introduction to Phu Quoc island, and Sun World’s official Hon Thom page for the current line-up.
Every trip to Hon Thom has two legs. First comes the road journey south to An Thoi station, about 40 minutes from the Bai Truong area and longer in peak season. Then comes the crossing, by cable car or by boat.
Our shuttle service covers the first leg.
The cable car is the reason most people come. Running 7,899.9 m from An Thoi station to Hon Thom station, it has held the Guinness World Record as the world’s longest three-rope cable car crossing the sea since 2018, and the crossing takes roughly 15 minutes each way.
The ride itself is the attraction. Cabins pass over Hon Dua and Hon Roi, above anchored fishing fleets and water that shifts from jade to deep blue. Sit in the middle of the cabin if anyone in your group is uneasy with heights. One thing to plan around is that the cable car runs in scheduled sessions with a long midday break, not continuously through the day.
Boats make more sense if you want several islands rather than one. Speedboats from An Thoi port reach Hon Thom in around 30 minutes, and most operators bundle the crossing into three-island or four-island tours with snorkelling stops at the neighbouring islets.
The trade-off is straightforward. A boat tour gives you more coastline and more time in the water, while the cable car gives you the view that people book Phu Quoc for. Several operators split the difference, running one leg by boat and the other by cable car.

The island splits into two experiences that suit different travellers. One is a built entertainment complex with slides, coasters, and shows. The other is a coastline with coral and calm, shallow water.
Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park is where the majority of visitors spend their day, and it divides into two zones:
Ride line-ups and show times change through the year, so check the Sun World Hon Thom page close to your travel date. Pack swimwear even if the water park is not the plan, because half the island runs on it.
Away from the rides, Hon Thom keeps two named beaches, Bai Trao and Bai Nom, both sheltered and shallow enough for easy swimming. Snorkelling and diving trips run over the reefs around the neighbouring islets, where visibility peaks in the dry season from November to April.
It is a different kind of swimming from the one you get on the mainland. Hon Thom offers coral, rock pools, and short protected bays, while Long Beach and the beaches nearer the resort give you open sand, room to walk, and the sunset.
A few practical points shape how the day runs:

Hon Thom is a strong day out for some travellers and the wrong call for others. Be honest about which group you fall into before you commit a full day to it.
Go if you are:
Consider skipping it if you want:
Hon Thom rewards a decision made early: pick your crossing, book the transfer, and set your return session before you leave. Get those three right and the rest of the day looks after itself, from the cable car window to the last swim before the ropeway closes.
Stay on Bai Truong and the drive south is short, the transfers are arranged in-house, and the beach is waiting when you get back. Browse our rooms and suites or the current offers and packages.

Get up to 20% off the tropical vacation of your dreams when booking 3 nights or more.
One day is enough for most visitors. Four to six hours on the island covers the water park, a sit-down lunch, the dry rides, and an hour on the beach without rushing. Families with young children often use a shorter version, crossing in the morning and returning after lunch, which avoids the hottest part of the afternoon.
Yes. The island has public beaches, walking paths, and cafés outside the rides, and a standard ticket lets you skip the slides entirely if you prefer to swim and sit. Island-hopping boat tours are the better option if the park holds no interest at all, since several stop at Hon Thom alongside the smaller islets nearby.
Bring swimwear made from lycra or spandex, since slides do not permit metal zips or studs, along with high-factor sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Leave outside food and drink behind, because the park does not allow them, with an exception for baby formula. A dry bag helps if you plan to move between the beach and the water park.
